After Oma's mother passed away, her father took over the role of teaching his children things that were important to him. When he was in the military during the first World War, he had to learn to make a bed with his sheets and bedding so tight his commanders could make a coin bounce when they flipped it onto his bed. Finding this an important lesson to learn, he taught his children the military way to make their beds then a coin was produced and flipped onto each bed. They learned quickly and were very excited when the coin did finally bounce.
Oma's father got married again when Oma was fourteen. She was sent off to find a job in the home of aristocrats. She became a maid and a nanny and loved her work. One day the maid who made up the bedrooms each day could not do her duties that morning so Oma was asked to do the work for her. Oma was very nervous because no one had instructed her on how to make beds in this home. She prayed to her Father in Heaven for help and then decided to make the beds the only way she knew how. She made each bed a "coin bouncer". When she was through, she went back to her own work. The next morning both Oma and the bedroom maid were called to go into the Masters bedroom. His voice was stern as was his face. He pointed to the bed and asked "who made the beds yesterday?" The bedroom maid was quick to answer "Oh it wasn't me" -- then she pointed at Oma with a haughty smile -- "she did it." He asked Oma "where did you learn to make a bed like that?" She answered humbly "by my father who learned it in the military." He nodded his head toward the giggling bedroom maid and looked back at Oma, "teach her how - I've never slept so well in years." The giggling came to an abrupt stop as the man left the room. Oma felt so blessed and thankful for a father who cared and a Father in Heaven who cares and loves all of us unconditionally.
