Little Black Dress

Mamma had one dress that she wore every Sunday but "necessity is the mother of invention" so she figured out different ways to wear it to make it more fun for her. She sewed a white collar from scraps and snapped it on to give the dress a new look. Another Sunday she would take off the collar and just wear it plain. And still another Sunday she would wear an inexpensive strand of pearls and matching earrings. It made her happy to have a change just like we all love to wear something new. Mamma was a beautiful woman. As she headed off to church with her 2 daughters, a lady stopped her, being green with envy, to let her know that she and others had been talking and decided that they needed to let her know that she ought to quit buying new clothes for herself and start buying things that are necessary to raise a family. Mamma smiled sweetly and patiently and told her that the dress was old, she just added a few things to make it look new. Mamma was very frugal and always thought of others, especially her family. Her girls looked groomed and clean and she was very proud of them. What a gorgeous woman inside and out. And that's how I remember the story told to me by my Mamma!
